Frank Sinatra will make his first-ever appearance on a Grammy Awards telecast when he accepts a special Legends Award for musical achievement March 1 at Radio City Music Hall, according to CBS, which is broadcasting the event. The appearance will mark the healing of a reported rift between Ol’ Blue Eyes and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He reportedly was miffed in 1981 after his signature song New York, New York was passed over for Record of the Year in favor of Christopher Cross’s Sailing, and vowed to have nothing to do with the Grammys.
Irish rocker Bono of the group U2, who performs on Sinatra’s best-selling Duets album, will present the award, CBS said. Previous winners were Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson.
