U2 bassist’s assistant ’stole 2.8 mn euros’ from him

A former personal assistant of U2 bassist Adam Clayton stole 2.8 million euros ($3.5 million) from the musician’s bank accounts, a Dublin court heard Thursday, according to Irish media.
Carol Hawkins is on trial for 181 counts of stealing cheques from the 52-year-old musician between 2004 and 2008, while she was living rent-free at his home and earning a salary that eventually rose to 48,000 euros ($60,000) a year, the Irish Independent newspaper reported.
