(FEB. 17) WENN/P - MUHAMMAD ALI’S STANDINGOVATION Former boxing champion MUHAMMAD ALI receivedthe loudest cheers of the night at the BRIT AWARDS as he urgedeveryone to get involved in the Jubilee 2000 "Drop the Debt"campaign.
Ali joined U2 frontman BONO on stage at the Docklands Arenato reinforce their support for the campaign to cancel the ThirdWorld debt before the beginning of the next century.
Bono said afterwards, "He is Jubilee 2000’s ambassador and asI said to them out there, he’s already changed the world. Hechanged the way people saw colour, and at a time when itwas completely unpopular he said he wasn’t gonna go and fightin Vietnam, you know he went to prison for that. He’s a trulymoral man. And he doesn’t make a big deal about it, that’swhat he is.
"And I think that’s why everyone just got up on their feettonight - that was quite a moment. You had all kinds of peoplejust coming out for him."
