Aung San Suu Kyi, pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace laureate, symbolises the struggle for freedom of the people of Burma.
Her Party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), won 82% of the seats in the 1990 election but the military rulers refused to transfer power and Aung San Suu Kyi has spent many years under house arrest.
During the 360° tour U2 fans have been letting the world know that the people of Burma are not forgotten.
For the 2010 tour the production team have come up with a very cool online device through which fans can create a Show of Hands in solidarity with Aung San Suu Kyi.
All you need to take part is a webcam. And your open palm. (And a message - if you want to write it on your palm.)
Here’s how you take part.
- Grant access to your webcam below.
- Get your left hand ready - your open palm, with or without a personal message for Aung San Suu Kyi.
- Then, position your left hand in the outline provided and capture a still frame of your open hand.
- Complete your name, location and select a show where you’d like your hand to appear.
- Your image will be submitted to U2.com and may then be incorporated into the live show.
(Please note: in uploading your image to
U2.com, you are agreeing to the Terms outlined lower down the page. And if you’re writing a message on your hand, don’t
use any toxic materials. Thanks!)
