All the versions of this article:
My name is Emma Phillips and I want to work with Bono.
As a passionate supporter of humanitarian assistance to the most impoverished people in the world and a citizen who is unsatisfied with her own meagre efforts to contribute effectively in this regard, I hereby plan to work with Bono, if he’ll have me!
I am aiming to have a 20 minute audience with him while he is in Melbourne in November and then have him agree to employ me or assist me in setting up a ’Work with Bono’ foundation in Australia. Whatever improves the chances of affecting real change in Africa.
He is currently one of the most effective spokesmen for equality and justice for the poorest people of Africa, who compels me to listen and to act. I am left with little doubt that my own skills would be best utilised alongside his and that drastic, positive change in impoverished Africa is a real possibility now. I have been volunteering for a high profile NGO in Australia for most of this year and contribute financially and vocally to related organisations.
To see how Emma is going in her quest to get to Bono, go to YouTube to check out the new videos...
Currently I work as a professional photographer and photographic producer from a studio in Melbourne. I also lecture at RMIT University.
OK, now the fun part.. The short-term aim is to find Bono in Brisbane (first port-of-call for U2 in Australia) where I’ll be asking him very nicely if he’ll meet me for 20 minutes in Melbourne to listen to me plead and beg my case. If I can’t find him in Brissy without looking like a bad groupie, I’ll be heading to Adelaide for the shows there, prior to Melbourne. We (my team and I!) are embarking on a full-blown campaign which is currently being documented on film. My efforts to secure a job with Bono are available for full public view on YouTube and MySpace.
The YouTube footage will be updated every couple of days or so, to keep you abreast of the action. Things should really hot up come November 7th in Brisbane. This filming is purely and shamelessly an attention-grabbing exercise and will last as long as the funds do (luckily U2 arrive here very soon...)
Stay tuned…
Check out You Tube for vision of me attempting to make t-shirts, source cheesy badges, create a web site, harass the police, get in a photo shoot, complain about lack of hours in a day, boss others around and generally try to figure out what the hell I’m doing.
Look out on the streets of Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide for myself and crew in vibrant red iwant2workwithbono.com t-shirts and other friends gleefully displaying their support with a politicians-style badge.
