U2 COUNT THE MONEY NOW THAT THEIR TOUR IS OVER : U2 endedtheir POPMART tour last weekend $160 million better off. TheDISCOTHEQUE rockers played to an estimated 4.5 millionfans in 30 countries since their tour started in Las Vegaslast April. The PopMart extravaganza compares favorably withthe group’s ZOOROOPA tour five years ago, when U2 earned only $3.2million after 18 months on the road. To avoid similar paltryrewards, manager PAUL McGUINNESS pre-sold PopMart’s promotionrights to a top Canadian promoter in order to cover some oftheir costs. He and the rest of U2 are now netting half of thetour gross of $320 million.
